Budget Traveling To France - Europe

By Frank Lupin

Polluted, dreadful or revolting, most people have their own judgment about France and the French people: If you think France you think: fashionable, stylish, sexy, impolite, bureaucratic, bitchy as hell, pavements studded with dog excrements, French baguettes that dry out before you get a chance to eat it and a habit of torching cars is some of the talk on the street. Spice up the cauldron with the regular metropolitan riots, political gossip and a 35-hour working week - not to forget The Da Vinci Code, a gigantic box-office hit taking over Paris as well as celebrity Angelina Jolie supposedly plumping for a castle in Normandy to raise her children - and the worldwide press is all over too.

This is, after all, that magical land of good food and wine, of majestic chateaux and flawlessly restored farmhouses, of landmarks known the planet over and hidden landscapes few really know. Take pleasure in art and romance in the unblemished center on the River Seine. See celebrated pasts blaze forth at Versailles. Take a trip south for Roman developments and the dazzling blue Mediterranean Sea ; pander to your jet-set fantasies in pleasant Nice and St-Tropez. Ski the Alps. Experience the fine blend of language, music and folklore in Brittany brought by 5th-century Celtic invaders. Smell embarrassment on the beaches of Normandy and battlefields of Verdun and the Somme. And know that this is but the tip of that gigantic iceberg the French people call culture.

But change is going on to that enduring land whose citizens have a established joie de vivre and savoir- faire - and have done the same for centuries. France and the French are bored - and are ready to change. People are talking about it and you can see the change when you go and see. Some practical information for travel and business.

Money Cash: You always get a better exchange rate when you are in-country, though its a good idea to arrive with enough local currency to take a taxi to a hotel if you have to. Carry as little cash as possible while travelling around. Pickpockets are unavoidable.

Charges offered for Money Exchange fluctuate, so it pays to compare. Banks charge roughly 3.40 to 5.30 to cash travelers cheques (eg BNP Paribas charges 1.5%, with a minimum charge of 4Euro).Moneychangers business banks regularly charge a rigid 3 % to 5% comission per foreign-currency operation (eg BNP Paribas charges 3.3% or a minimum of about 4 Euro).

In general, post offices in Paris can offer the best exchange rates and accept banknotes in various currencies as well as American Express and Visa travelers cheques. The expenses for travelers cheques is 1.5% (minimum about 4 Euro). Exchange bureau (bureaux de change) are quicker and easier, open longer hours and provide better rates than most banks.

On small transactions, even exchange places with less-than-optimal rates may leave you with more euros in your pocket. Familiarize yourself with rates offered by the post office and compare them with those at exchange bureaux.

Travelers cheques: The most flexible travelers cheques are those issued by AmEx (in US dollars or Euros) and Visa (in Euros) because they can be presented at many post offices as well as business banks and exchange bureaux. Keep in Mind that you will not be able to pay most shops with travelers cheques directly. AmEx offices dont charge commission on their own travelers cheques. For lost travelers cheques call AmEx (0 800 908 600) and Thomas Cook (0 800 908 330) for replacements.

Things All Visitors Should Do When Visiting Del Mar California

By Terry Hunefeld

Del Mar California is the quintessential dream beach town - a quaint, yet chic Southern California community overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Like La Jolla and San Diego, Del Mar's aura of paradise comes in a large result from its world-class beaches and persistently clear blue skies. Add to all that a unique fairgrounds, horse track and a quaint, upscale "downtown" village, and you have activities for everyone.

1. Where To Shop & Dine

Del Mar's downtown area has a definite European flavor. More than seventy unique shops, cute hotels and 23 restaurants offer enough variety to please everybody. The artsy "Italian" outdoor mall, Del Mar Plaza, is at the north end of town at the corner of Highway 101 and 15th Street, where you will find trendy shops and unique bistros among the ironwork and tiled fountains of an Italian piazza.

Del Mar Plaza is home of a favorite Del Mar restaurant, Epazote. Epazote is a wonderful place for lunch or end of the day cocktails because it has a sun-drenched outdoor patio with sea breezes and enchanting panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. Epazote has something for all appetites with temptations ranging from premium cuts of what they call "Sterling Silver beef" to delicious seafood entrees followed by delicious desserts. The lively bar features an upscale menu - be sure to try their "Shaker Margaritas" - big enough for two. Sophisticated and chic, the 180-degree view of the ocean makes Epazote a great lunch, dinner or nighttime experience. As an added benefit, you can walk back to your hotel or Del Mar Bed and Breakfast after those margaritas.

2. Take A Hike Through Time

At the southern edge of Del Mar, along the Pacific Coast, Torrey Pines State Park is a 1700 acre natural habitat to the rare Torrey Pine. The park offers seven hiking trails with stunning views of wind bent trees, abstract sandstone formations, wildflower fields and the sea below, all of which is constantly changing as the sun and cloud formations move to change the lighting. Locals park just outside the park in the free parking lot along the ocean and Highway 101 and walk up the hill to the Nature Center. In spring and early summer the hillsides are covered with native plants and spectacular blooms of wildflowers. You can easily spend a whole day hiking up the cliffs and down to the ocean through red sandstone canyons carved thousands of years ago.

3. See The World From Way "Up There"

Every evening we see them from Encinitas - hot air balloons, specs in the distance, soaring through the sky just before sunset after taking off from Del Mar. We have been "up there" and can testify that a balloon ride is a one-of-a-kind experience. You can't help but gain a unique perspective of the immenseness of the Pacific Ocean and sweeping San Diego countryside. Our usual sunny skies and calm morning and evening winds allow you to experience what it's like to float among the clouds. Hot air balloon companies have sunrise and sunset tours - weather permitting - from Del Mar.

Google the following companies to compare itineraries and rates: Panorama Balloon Tours, Skysurfrer Balloon Tours or Sky's The Limit Balloon Adventures. On clear days you can see San Clemente and Santa Catalina Islands, 60 - 70 miles off shore. It doesn't matter if you're staying at a hotel in Del Mar or an Encinitas Bed and Breakfast, you're just minutes away from experiencing a lifetime treat.

4. Get The Tan Of A Lifetime

Located just north of Torrey Pines reserve, Del Mar Beach is a beach-lover's delight, a great spot for families, friends and surfers who enjoy its wide expanse of soft sand. Swimming, loafing, sunning, walking, jogging, surfing, body boarding, boogie boarding and even grunion hunting are just a few of the activities you will enjoy here. In town, the most popular beach is at the end of 15th Street. Crowded year-around with families, couples, friends and surfers, parking can be a problem at 15th Street, and even if you find a space, you must feed the meters. Parking is free on 17th Street if you get there early in the day - during the summer the parking spaces fill early. Lodging and accommodations can be found throughout the area, from cute and intimate Del Mar bed and breakfasts to the more traditional hotels in Del Mar.

5. Pedal Around Town

Bike riding is one of the simplest ways to have fun, enjoy the wonderful Del Mar scenery, especially if you're staying at a Del Mar B&B or other vacation lodging. With near-perfect weather all year, enjoying the great outdoors is a way of life for most Del Martians who enjoy riding down quiet residential streets along the ocean. Del Mar is full of paths and trails that give cyclists an opportunity to relax, exercise and explore. Any way you cut it, Del Mar is a great place to have fun, get fit, and relax!

By Brad Alexzander

A popular tradition among high school and college students alike is heading somewhere warm and sunny for the week known as Spring Break. Regrettably, most people?s current financial state with this economy eliminates a few of the more expensive destinations.

However, there are five top spots college students can make reservations for now and look forward to several days of sun and sand.

* Perhaps the most well-known of all destinations is Ft. Lauderdale. Florida has changed over the years, but Ft. Lauderdale is still the place which college students can afford traveling to during Spring Break.

* Acapulco also tops the list for popular destinations, especially for college students. You can usually find travel packages that help make this destination affordable as well as trendy.

* While Bermuda is always at the top of the list, it is quite expensive. Therefore, Aruba has become the alternative destination with fabulous beaches, wonderful people, and fantastic weather. Unlike Bermuda, all Aruba hotels are on the beach.

* For affordable accommodations and fabulous beaches, the Bahamas is also considered one of the great Spring Break destinations in 2009.

* Lastly, cruises have become highly touted as the best possible vacation venue for most college students and the all-inclusive rates will take you to either "nowhere" or from Florida to the Bahamas,.

If you plan to travel to Mexico you want to take safety into consideration. Crime has risen dramatically in several popular resort cities such as Cancun and the US strongly advises traveling there. Fortunately for its fans, Acapulco is the exception.

Panama City Beach, FL is one final destination for you to consider. It has become a booming destination for Spring Breakers in the past few years. Comprised of beautiful beaches, plentiful parties, and hopping clubs many college students will want to consider Panama City Beach as a final "resort."

Any of the above destinations will definitely help you relax and unwind and get the most from your Spring Break holiday. I recommend that you book early for the best deals and a guaranteed spot. You can find great deals using the internet or your personal travel agent.

Hanging out in Bondi Beach

By Brad Peterson

Just a short drive outside Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, Australia, you'll find the vibrant community of Bondi Beach. Pronounced "Bon-die," with a long I, this beach is a center for surfing and sunbathing all summer long.

Founded back in the middle of the 19th century, as Sydney's urban center began expanding, the unique name of Bondi Beach derives from an Aboriginal word meaning "waves crashing upon rocks."

With nearly one kilometer of white sand, Bondi Beach is a great place to get away from the populous Sydney and enjoy South Wales' beautiful beaches. In their migratory months, schools of dolphins and even whales can be seen off the coast. The rare fairy penguin has even been known to make the occasional appearance.

For visitor orientation, start at the Pavilion Community Center and pick up some helpful information. This town hub also has changing rooms and showers for bathers, several eateries and an amphitheater.

Hitting the beach, stroll along the sandy coast and sunbathe with the bronzed locals, or take a swim in the clear blue waters on the northern side of Bondi Beach. For more challenging waves, surfers can head south, where the water can be perilous for a swim but heaven for a surf session. In the summer months, lifeguard patrols are all over the beach and shark nets are laid out for further protection.

Take in a bit of Bondi Beach's history and beauty with one of the scenic walks. Start at Bondi's old Pavilion, begun in 1928, on the way to the cliffs of Bronte. See the Hawkesbury sandstone belt which dates back to over 200 million years B.C. Or visit the old Bronte Baths en route to Waverley Cemetery.

For a taste of Bondi's racy beach culture, check out the southern beaches, where local ordinances are ignored by topless sunbathers on a regular basis. In fact, the beach holds the world record for biggest bikini photo shoot of all time.

Visitors in August can take part in the fourteen km City To Surf Run from Sydney's city center to Bondi's sandy coast. In September don't miss the annual Festival of the Winds, where locals show of their prize Kites.

When that beach-day hunger strikes, you can dine at small cafes or more elegant restaurants by the water's edge. Or have a drink in one of the pubs and rub elbows with the friendly locals.

Bondi Beach has been a popular location for film and television, such as the lifeguard show Bondi Rescue or the fictional Breakers.

Bondi Beach's stature grew even more in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, when the beach volleyball competition took place here.

Visitors looking to spend a night or weeks in Bondi Beach will find accommodations in any price range. Backpacker hostels, small upscale hotels and charming bed-and-breakfasts are all options.

Only a thirty minute drive from downtown Sydney, take Oxford street from the capital and follow it as it turns into Enfield Drive and finally Bondi Road. Because parking can be so difficult, locals suggest arriving via public transportation to avoid the hassle. Numerous buses arrive from Sydney everyday.

Reasons Why You Should Protect Your Eyes From Ultraviolet Rays

By Carrie Westengate

People usually have some understanding of the damage that continuous and frequent exposure to the sun can have on the skin, but they do not always consider the effects on the eyes. Light contains invisible wavelengths that can also cause eventual damage to the eyes. These waves can be divided into visible and high energy visible (HEV) light that cause ultra violet (UV) damage if you don't protect your eyes.

Visible light is the portion that gives the perception of colour to the eye and HEV is the upper end of the spectrum in the violet blue band that approachs ultraviolet. Excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays can cause UV damage and have effects later in life that can lead to macular degeneration.

Ultraviolet light waves are electromagnetic radiation that is found to be stronger in higher altitudes or in open highly reflective environments such as snow, water and sand. These ultraviolet rays can be divided into three types of light, UVA, UVB and UVC. While most are aware that excessive exposure to ultraviolet waves leads to sunburn, there are other damaging effects to health that may occur, particularly to the eyes.

UVA (also known as longwave or black light) penetrates the skin and eyes and may cause premature aging. It has also been linked with eyestrain and fatigue in the short term.

UVB (also known as medium wave light) is known to cause the most UV damage and is also known to be a factor in retinal damage and the development of cataracts. Ultraviolet B waves are also associated with other problems that can lead to eye disease and possibly blindness.

Ultraviolet waves of the C subtype (also known as shortwave or germicidal light) are not a particular problem for the eyes as they are mostly absorbed by the outer atmosphere before it reaches the earth. UVC radiation is usually found in artificial sources such as mercury arc lamps and germicidal light.

It is important when buying sunglasses to look for those with 99-100% protection against UV damage. The lower amount of protection is most likely when purchasing photochromic lenses that would need a certain amount of ultraviolet waves to operate adequately.

It is not all bad news, of course some exposure is certainly beneficially to health. All that people should understand is that for health purposes, moderation should be considered when you are out in the sun.

In-Flight Food Options For Private Jet Charters

By Chris Channing

It's ironic to see someone lease or buy a private jet, but then notice that their in-flight meals are lacking in extravagance. Private jets don't allow for a lot of space in food preparation devices, so you will have to get creative in what you eat and how you prepare on your next private jet charter.

The average private jet isn't going to have much of a kitchen, or what pilots would otherwise call a galley. At most the average private jet will have an area for refrigeration and microwave. Higher priced models could include the use of a steam oven, but odds are that type of technology is out of reach for the average business owner. As you can see, it can be hard to plan a meal with limited tools.

Meat that has been properly frozen will present a problem for private jet owners. Meat can be thawed out, but cooking it in a microwave will result in a meal far from five stars. Methods can be taken to pre-cook the meat so that you only have to eat it up, but that too requires that you have a means of keeping the meat cold until you will have need for it in your meal.

Bringing your meal on board with you isn't such a bad idea. Preparing the meal during a flight takes too much time and would interrupt an otherwise peaceful flight. Take some basic foods that require little preparation, such as strawberries and carrots. Keeping it simple never hurt anyone, and even the simple sandwich can be made to please the most refined of tastes.

Catering is done for clients that don't want to worry about the food problem, and yet still want to eat like a king during the flight. Catering companies are experts in making the best of a small galley, and can even perform dinners for vegetarians or for special requests. Catering is going to cost a lot more money than what you would pay in preparing food yourself. If cost isn't a factor, private jet charter companies can give leads on good services.

Don't forget to eat smart when on a flight. If you have an important meeting following the flight or soon after, you should eat a diet accordingly. Eating plenty of carbohydrates and proteins is hard when cooking utilities are limited, but not impossible. Resorting to a simple boxed dinner for your dining needs is possible in order for you to get the variety you want without cost of catering.

In Conclusion

Cooking technologies designed for jet charters is improving all the time. As mentioned there are already ovens that are being used with the power of steam. Keep up to date on the utensils you can make us of in your galley to make your food possibilities more enjoyable.
