Save Money With Cheap Hotels In New York

By Chris Linch

This actually is a complex article to create. The reason is you can stay various places in New York City. To state here are the cheapest hotels in New York City in reality doesn't mean much. It really depends on where you want to stay. You might want to stay by Central Park. You might also want to stay in the Financial District, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, etc. New York City is huge, and the comical thing is there really is no such thing as a "New York City."

What you ask? That is right, despite the fact that all of us travel agents offer rates to New York City, try to find it on a Map. There is no New York City it is in fact a bunch of small cities lumped jointly called New York City.

At any rate to get back on track and give you what you want reading this article, these are the cheap hotels in New York City. These can be all over the city, in part one of this article I am merely giving you the cheap hotels in the city. The other parts I will break it out depending on where you desire to stay. Keep an eye out for those versions soon.

West Side Inn Hotel and Hostel starts at just $23

Economy Lodge Newark is as low as $60

Days Inn Newark can be booked for as little as $67

Ramada East Orange rates are as low as $70

Days Inn starts at about $70

I always propose that you book your travel as far in advance as you can. Most sites will let you change your reservation if needed. If you know that you are going for sure then you can easily book a non refundable rate and save some more money.

Be very sensible in New York about saving money. Some hotels have common bathrooms which means more than 1 room or even an entire floor shares a bathroom. A great deal of hotels in New York are dormitory style, especially hostels. New York is not a upright place to go if you are on such a budget that you need cheap hotels. This is the number one cause of customer frustration on hotel and travel agent websites. So be forewarned, if you don't ask and just tell them to book you a cheap room, you are going to get a cheap room.

The Pious, the Profane, and Halloween

By Benedict Fisher

No other public celebrations in the U.S have taken quite as many hits as Halloween. The oppression usually comes from the spiritual parties in different states. And the 'demonic' resonances of the festivities are often given emphasis.

Understanding the persecution

Nowadays, the word 'satanic' has become ambiguous in churchly domains. If the Western Christian belief was summarized, then the devil's picture would appear to be anything that did not look Christian.

Picture this -- anything unknown or outside of the circle was considered evil. It's the same as looking outside at the endless skyline from a small room. This unconquered vista is seen as dangerous and, according to such beliefs, evil. This can be established by analyzing how the portrayal of evil has changed through time.

Complete removal?

The religious Right had wanted for a long time to completely remove the Halloween festivities from schools. The reason for this is the 'pagan' themes of Halloween celebrations. The 'ugly' beings like goblins and ghouls are considered evil and Satanic.

Rationally, if you're operating with this hypothetical agenda, then kids who wear devilish costumes are encompassed by the devil's army. Quite ridiculous, but religious communities have a very large following.

Secular Reaction

Despite the accusations, there were groups of people who did not sympathize with the fanatical religious beliefs. Based on the Atlanta Constitution, a newspaper:

"Halloween may have begun as a pagan festival, but in the United States it was now a festival of fun, feasts, fancy frocks, and frivolous fright. Ours is not just a Christian nation, but a nation born from the search of religious freedom. Let the kids have some fun."

Because of such strong, critical views of Halloween, the celebration has been saved from unjust persecution and complete immolation.

Fighting back, more and more

Since all efforts have failed, the religious communities have taken other measures to make sure that they have their say as to how the Halloween festivities are to be carried out. These communities are purely reactionary, meaning; they don't have a clear program.

They react based on the superficial circumstances and not to the deeper structures; and thus, they fail to address the problem. Anyway, these reactionary communities try to combat Halloween by doing the exact opposite of modern Halloween practices.

For example, the adults want their children to wear "happy" clothes instead of Halloween costumes. In addition to this, these religious adults alter the basic concept of a haunted house to integrate their own ideas.

One good example of this is the Trinity Christian School in Texas. The said school has been known to set up a Hell House on a yearly basis. The Hell House provokes the usual schemes and themes in renowned culture such as:

- Drug-ridden raves

- Pre-marital sex

- Homosexuality

- Family violence

- School shootings

The point of all this is to lead children and bewildered teenagers to so-called paths of righteousness. Are they effective? To a certain degree, they are. Because out of 75,000 individuals who have been recorded at one time, about 15,000 have become members of the community.

Today, aside from the Internet, this is one of the most effective tools to evangelize people.

Remote Viewing Methods For Beginners

By Adam G Lake

Remote viewing methods and techniques will vary. However, remote viewing is an innate ability to see or view a particular object by simply using the power of the human mind. It is somewhat likened to having an out of body experience or astral travel. Even so, they are not really the very same things. They are your natural psychic and extra sensory abilities of perception that you can develop into a skill.

Every one of us possesses latent psychic abilities which include remote viewing. It's just a matter of developing this skill which otherwise goes unused. Once you awaken this natural ability, you'll be able to see things which are well beyond the range of your perception through the usual means.

Remote viewing methods and indeed remote viewing itself are often considered to be farfetched ideas. As it happens, though, remote viewing is no more outlandish than say, the ability to speak or to walk on two legs.

It's remote viewing, whatever you prefer to call it.

Take for example someone receiving some sort of psychic signal which does not have another individual as its origin; we would term this person a clairvoyant. When there are two people sending messages directly from one mind to another, we call this telepathy. Similarly, when a parent just senses that their children need help even though they may thousands of miles away, we often chalk it up to parental instincts.

As long as you keep an open mind about things, you can enjoy a new and enhanced perspective and even an expanded set of psychic senses to compliment your physical senses. When you let your natural psychic abilities come out, you can see the world in an entirely new way.

What Is Involved In Various Remote Viewing Methods?

Learning to remote view begins with getting into the proper mental state. You'll need to have already practiced your inherent psychic abilities or learned some meditation and visualization techniques to reach the state of relaxation needed for remote viewing.

Meditation and guided visualizations can be effective remote viewing methods; these techniques help you to focus your mind on the person, place or thing you'd like to be able to view. Like developing any skill, this does take some practice, so be patient and stick with your efforts to learn.

You can make use of other forms of helpful aids when you are trying to learn how to alter your state of consciousness and increase your psychic development and skills such as various media types. For instance, there are various books and sound technology tapes and recording that are most useful for learning how to remote view.

Some remote viewing methods work better for some individuals than for others. You should try out several of them in order to find which of them is the most helpful to you as you learn to use your remote viewing abilities.

Trust yourself and go with your instincts. Especially at first you might have images come to you which don't make sense - be patient; these images may come together later on. You'll also find that the images you receive while remote viewing will become clearer the more you practice.

Take it a step at a time, starting small and working your way up. Build on each lesson and progress bit by bit. It's best to start with a small number of simple, easy to visualize images as you begin practicing remote viewing. Small photographs, drawings or even playing cards work well.

Seal these images in an envelope and try to see them without opening the envelope. Keep a notebook to write down your results and track your progress as you continue to practice the ability.

Be patient and keep with your efforts. No one is able to remote view perfectly at first. As long as you stick with it and practice regularly, you'll progressively improve and soon you'll be remote viewing with the best of them.

Greece : A Guide To Shopping In Greece

By Andy Dickson

This part of our guide to holidays in Greece sees us covering shopping and money...

Greece isn't renowned for its shopping, but it does offer some unique and quality local products. Special purchases include lace, jewelry, metalwork, pottery, knitwear, rugs, leather goods, local wines and spirits, and local handicrafts.

Almost all Greek cities have large shopping malls with internationally recognized major retailers and brands. However, prices in these shopping centers are similar to those in other Europe countries, you unless they are holding sales you won't get any real bargains.

Haggling is only tolerated in tourist souvenir stores and in some family-owned arts and crafts shops. But in all other cases it achieves nothing and is considered rude. In places where haggling is accepted, you can get at least 10-20% off the price, and being able to speak a little Greek is likely to help you get the lowest possible price.

Most items incur Value Added Tax (VAT) and this is generally but not always included in price tags. However, some shops do provide tax-free shopping for non-European Union residents. Under this system, people who do not live in the EU can seek a VAT refund when departing the EU. To do this, ask for a VAT voucher when buying an item and show a customs officer all such vouchers and the related items upon leaving the EU.

The Euro is Greece's official currency. This is the only currency that will be accepted but money can easily be exchanged in any tourist center and in the larger cities. The best exchange rates are usually offered by banks, followed by specialist shops, and then automated currency exchange machines. When changing money, make an effort to get mostly smaller denominations, preferably nothing bigger than a 50 note, as many businesses are wary about accepting larger notes.

ATM machines are present almost everywhere and Mastercard, Visa, and Eurocard are widely accepted in retail stores, hotels, and travel agencies, but are not accepted at some restaurants and local souvenir shops.

Halloween in Comics, Radio and in the Movies

By Benedict Fisher

Unbelievably, Halloween-inspired scripts and stories first made their appearance not in movie theaters but in good, old radio. We owe the first scary and thrilling story for Halloween to the novelist H.G. Wells. If you remember Tom Cruise's War of the Worlds, then you might already know of this novelist.

What makes "War of the Worlds" an effective scary story when a simple fiction? Orson Welles came up with a radio production that created a genius adaptation of this story for Halloween.

"And in the news today Aliens!"

That's right -- Welles's radio production served as the standard by which other Halloween shows would be judged in the future. His radio production turned parts of "War of the Worlds" into news bulletins that were announced between songs.

Visualize the morbid situations depicted in the story of "War of the Worlds" -- like aliens arriving a day before Halloween, as real news on the radio. It's been said that there really were listeners in North America who panicked from the story. They were terrified.

Actually, in New Jersey people were subjected to mass panic! Imagine the effectiveness of the move. It was pure genius, and a wonderful appropriation of a classic literary piece. In addition, this was just in 1930s. What would follow was a careful yet guided effort to use Halloween as a central theme in available media.

Literature

The theme of Halloween also managed to make it into printed media. Barely 15 years after the very scary radio production, the writer Anthony Boucher wrote a noir story that focused on reality and the grisly. Boucher's story was set in California, adding to its realism.

In another five years, Halloween would make its way into the comic book industry. The comic series "Shock" made the idea of Halloween even scarier than it used to be. It told the story of an evil master of an orphan asylum who eventually got turned into a Halloween pumpkin -- and as we all know, Halloween pumpkins are hollowed out and have their faces carved out. The "Shock" comic series was a brave venture into establishing Halloween as an event that had a set number of accepted themes.

EC comics also came up with their own Halloween-inspired comic series, many of which featured limbs being cut off and such. But before the 60's rolled around, comic books were regulated by the American Comics Code (ACC). Such gruesome comic series were deemed unacceptable and soon died down.

Now, comic series like "Watchmen" from Alan Moore and "Sandman" by Neil Gaiman are showing to be lucrative enterprises in the comic industry. But these stories are not endorsed by American Comics Code. ACC only supports more wholesome comic books like "Archie."

Halloween on TV and the Movies

For some reason or another, free TV was slow to respond to the Halloween theme. Perhaps it was censorship (the religious Right) that made television productions that much more difficult.

The following are the earliest seen Halloween-inspired shows and movies in North America:

- Whispering Ghosts (Milton Berle)

- Footlight Serenade (Betty Grable & Victor Mature)

- Frankenstein (Boris Karloff)

- The House on the Haunted Hill (Vincent Price)

- Rosemary's Baby (Audrey Hepburn)

- Night of the Living Dead (George Romero)

- King Kong

- Godzilla

- Psycho (Hitchcock)

- Night of the Demons

One of the numerous explanations for why Mexico is a popular vacation destination for college students is because of the legal age for drinking is different from the United States–the legal age is just eighteen. That law permits nearly students to drink alcohol during the spring break, an activity that everyone of them can enjoy.

While vacationing in Mexico, there’s a nearly unlimited amount of vacation destinations which you can choose among. If you’re interested in partying, socializing, and spending some time with your friends, you have a ton of locations to choose from and several of those spots will be beach locations.

The more popular spring break destination within Mexico, if not the entire planet, is Cancun which is literally loaded with drinking establishments as well as nightspots, so if you are keen on partying till dawn, Cancun is the place to do it.

Hotels In Old Havana

By J. M. Maurette

If you are looking around to make up your mind about which Havana hotels to go for your upcoming Cuba Holidays then you are reading the right article. I will let you know which are the best hotels in Havana categorized by star rating and the average price per person.

Havana City is divided into 14 municipalities. The old town known as Habana Vieja is probably your best bet when it comes to choose the best location to stay in Havana. There are other 2 interesting places to stay such as Vedado and Miramar but they will be the subject of a future article,

I would concentrate in this article in the Old Town area also known by the locals as Habana Vieja. There are over 20 hotels in the Old Town and if you check other reviews about hotels in Havana you will find these 3 to be the best options in terms of standard of accommodation: 5 * Saratoga Hotel, 5* Parque Central Hotel and 4*+ Santa Isabel Hotel.

If you budget can only afford 4 star hotel accommodation then you have more options available. There are about seven 4 star hotels in the Old Town all of which are managed by one of the best hotel chains in Cuba - Habaguanex

Florida Hotel, Raquel Hotel and O'Farril Hotel are among the most beautiful palaces. They have an average of 30 rooms each so the service is always going to be more personalized compared to those huge Havana hotels.

Some cheaper accommodation facilities in the Old Town which I dare to recommend are Park View Hotel and Beltran de Santa Cruz. The last one has only 14 rooms and is highly demanded because of its room prices (average 40.00 CUC per person per night).

There are some 2 star hotels in the Old Town area but I will only recommend those to people on a very tight budget. Their prices are very cheap - somewhere around 15.00 CUC per person per night. I will advise to first read the reviews on Trip Advisor website before you decide to book one of this. Lido, Caribbean and Lincoln Hotels in the Old town are the best 2 star hotels.

In general Hotels in Old Havana are the best ones in terms of location and quality of the service. If you want to stay in a 5 star hotel you will be looking at around 85.00 CUC per person per night. A more economic yet very decent accommodation would be the 4 star hotel option with prices around 60.00 CUC per person per night.
